Hi,
Bumblebees need nectar and flowers produce nectar which is why it is very important to plant flowers that they like! These flowers include:
Monarda:
- also known as bee balm
- grows wild in prairies and woodlands
- is a favorite amongst gardeners
Mountain Mint:
- minty aroma
-blooms for about 8 weeks in the summer
- mostly white blooms which are magnets for a variety of pollinators
Aster:
- bumblebee favorites in autumn
- important for a variety of plants to bloom throughout the summer
Goldenrod:
- critical late season plants for bumblebees
- bloom late summer into fall
- nurture a wide array of pollinators not just bumblebees
- important for fueling the long distance migrations of monarch butterflies
Until next time, Grace
