Rabbit Facts
1. Baby rabbits are called kittens; female rabbits are called does; male rabbits are called bucks.
2. The mother feeds her kittens two times a day, usually at dawn and dusk. This is to protect her kittens from predators.
3. If you find baby rabbits on their own without any sign of the mother nearby, your first reaction might be to take them in. You should not do this because they might not be abandoned.
4. If you come across a nest of kittens and think they may have been abandoned check for these signs:
• they are cold
• they cry for more than a few minutes at feeding time
• they are blue, or their skin is shriveled from dehydration
5. If you find a nest of kittens that has been abandoned you should feed them kitten KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer) or goat's milk. NEVER feed kittens cow milk.
6. A rabbit's digestive system is very delicate. If they eat anything outside of their natural menu it can stress their stomach as well as cause diarrhea.
7. If you try to feed a baby rabbit grass and hay it will kill them.
